ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I was a young Army captain in 1973 when our nation’s military transitioned from a conscripted to an all-volunteer force. I had doubts, but over the next twenty-two years, I took great pride as the Army moved from an institution scorned in the years immediately following Vietnam to one held in the highest respect today. Today’s military has fewer men and women in it than ever before, but I have the greatest confidence in their ability to defend the freedoms all of us cherish as Americans. Today’s military is better equipped, better trained, and more professional.

Since September 11, 2001, America has necessarily been engaged in a Global War on Terrorism. Fighting an enemy that does not wear a uniform, has little regard for human life and no moral compass guiding it is much more of a challenge than anything I faced while in service. Our military faces difficult issues. So, I write to help all of us understand these difficulties impacting our men and women in uniform.

Here’s a quick glimpse of the issues addressed by each of my books:

Winter’s Bloom deals with PTSD

Operation Light Switch takes on the vagaries of military justice

Before the Snow Flies tells a complex story of military suicide

The Widow and the Warrior is about vigilante justice

The Cut is historical fiction set after the Civil War. It tells the story of two wounded vets, one white, the other black, who become reluctant leaders taking on Big Lumber in northern Michigan in1871.

The Road to Empire is a modern-day family saga telling what it’s like for service members and their families to serve during the Global War on Terrorism.

Those of us who are readers, do so for various reasons. Regardless of your reason for reading, I hope you enjoy the read.
